About Us

A Plus Films Ltd. was created in 2008 and has since established itself as a prominent player in the Bulgarian film industry.

Distribution and Cinema Exhibition
The company started as a distributor of independent films, particularly focusing on European and local productions, accumulating a portfolio of over 150 titles.

In 2011, A Plus Films expanded its operations by entering the video-on-demand (VOD) market and becoming a content supplier for VOD platforms. This paved the way for the company’s entry into the pay-television (PTV) industry, where it partnered with the largest local telecommunications provider to establish a PTV channel.

In 2013, A Plus Films further diversified its business by commencing the development of exhibition structures in smaller and underdeveloped regions of Bulgaria. Together with our partners we expanded our exhibition locations into the key cities, including the capital Sofia. As of today, the company and its partners from Cineland operate 14 locations with a total of 40 screens, making it the fastest-growing local exhibitor chain in Bulgaria.

Film Production

In 2016, the company commenced film production and secured a production grant from the National Film Centre (NFC) to complete its debut feature film, „Yatagan,“ which was released in February 2020. Subsequently, A Plus Films co-produced „Block“ (2023), a privately financed Bulgarian-Italian production. Currently, the company has  two projects in post-production: a feature documentary about a local music legend titled „A Tale of the New Times“ and a feature film debut titled „Non-Migrants.“ We have also co-produced several feature films that are currently in various stages of post-production.

The company actively supports emerging talent, having funded three recent short films — „Comma,“ „God, Where Art Thou?,“ and „Outrage“ — entirely through its own resources.
In late 2023, the company was awarded a grant for the development of two feature films through the Mini-Slate MEDIA program of the European Union.
A Plus Films has a number of projects in various stages of development, including four feature films, two feature documentaries, and a television series.
